In Stockholm, during winter when the average temperature stays in minus degree Celsius for months, when most of days are dark (you get only few hours of daylights). And at that point of time if you plan to play some outdoor sports in the white snow covered terrain then the winter sports “SKIING” is one of the best sports you can choose. Yes! Skiing is the one of the best sport you can think and should try during winter in Stockholm.
OK! First thing first, If you want to get some definition of skiing ⛷ then it is “the use of skis to glide on snow. Variations of purpose include basic transport, a recreational activity, or a competitive winter sport” this is what a wikipedia page reads for Skiing.
Now, coming to the story, for me it was fun and an absolutely nice experience. I was eager to learn but also I was scared to fall 😁. Because, I was skiing first time. Anyway wearing all the equipment for skiing ⛷. The ski , boots, helmet , eye glass everything was an exciting part of the preparation and experience. My colleagues from our research group were trying hard to keep my excitement level high! many thanks to them. Initially, I was thinking it will be simple thing to learn. Somehow, it was not so easy for me. I understood, it is a different kind of sports you need more balance and action from your legs. While learning, I would never forget the beginners teaching of Prof. Andrzej Wojcik. Though I fell several times 😃😃, I did not give up! And then, later in an hour or so.. I was glad, I could ski pretty well in the beginners slope. Anyway, I learned a little bit of this wonderful winter sport named as Skiing during my first attempt. So, this gave me further more confidence on this sentence I usually follow “Once a learner… Always a learner!”. In a nutshell, it is easy to skii, but you should learn how to control your speed and stop as and when you want! Many more to learn in further more upcoming fun skiing sessions. If you are wondering where in Stockholm I went for skiing? Well, we went to a skiing resort called as Romme Alpin about 180 KM north of Stockholm. In brief, it is a resort for Skiing in southern Dalarna of Sweden. It is 13 km outside Borlänge in southern Dalarna. It has the largest number of slopes outside of the Swedish mountain regions. It has boosting a front edge lift system. Romme Alpin has been developed for the most popular ski destinations both for day- as well as weekend visitors. The resort features 33 slopes operating in all weather conditions and 13 lifts, of which 5 are 6-chair express lifts. It is a convenient, time-saving, environmentally friendly place for unique skii experience! it takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes from Stockholm by road. We went there by Car with our research group at Stockholm University. We got the skiing equipment (Ski, boots, helmet) by rent. The clothes we had bought for ourselves from Decathlon!
Acknowledgements to all my energetic people those were directly part of this experience namely Prof. Andrzej Wojcik, Pamela, Mila, Nadia, Mostafa, Zuzana, Carlos, Patricia & Jordie. Few group members could not join but their encouragement is as always inspiring.
